Question: Did the Final panel of judges know anything about the contestants platforms, interviews before Sun. evening? It appears with the order SS, EG, Talent, OSQ that beauty was the determining factor with this Final panel of judges. That is like Miss USA. The judges never saw the talent of those eleminated earlier in the competiition. Still don’t see how this was fair to the individual contestants to be eliminated based on the opinion of one set of judges viewpoints on Final night and who after all are celebrities who may not have ever judged a beauty pageant. Just my two cents

Hi Mary! Great Question! The final night judges DID watch a portion of the contestant’s interviews (those who were in the Top 15), but it’s my understanding that they don’t watch all 10 minutes of every Top 15 contestant. Also, I think there are several reasons why Miss America uses the order of SS, EG, Talent, OSQ… First, I think they want to “hook” viewers early on by offering the SS competition first. Plus, by doing SS first, the public gets to see 15 ladies in bikinis instead of 10 or 12. Leaving Talent and OSQ towards the end, ensures that we get a Talented Miss America who can speak well. Otherwise, we might get someone who was not as strong in talent, but looked great in a gown and SS. As long as they keep this order, it seems like the priority will be to have a winner who is strong in Talent and OSQ – but also one who has to get through the SS round. Balance is key.
