One of my favorite things that happens in pageants is the rookie win.
As in, “the very first time you ever enter a pageant in your entire life, and you win” rookie win.
That’s the case for Lucy Edwards, Miss Vermont. One win – and that crown was her Ticket to Miss America. Can you even imagine???
Lucy’s journey to the Miss America stage might have been quicker than most, but she certainly made the most out of it! At Miss America, Lucy received one of the coveted STEM scholarships (Science Technology Engineering and Math) – which totals $5000. Overall, Lucy won $13,000 by participating in two (count ’em 2) pageants.
Not a bad gig for a Neuroscience major at the University of Vermont if you ask me!
Lucy is also an overall “lovely” young lady… Shortly after winning the Miss Vermont title, she was interviewed and asked about her platform and the year ahead. Here’s what she said…
“I’m still fairly convinced that I have the coolest job in the world and on top of everything else, I now get to travel the state of Vermont to share what I love- SCIENCE.”
Big Congrats to Lucy for being a lovely titleholder this year as well – You prove that beauty and brains can co-exist in the same person!
And now – Here are the nine ladies vying for the title of Miss Vermont 2015…
Even with only nine women competing, this is no ‘walk in the park’ for any of them. Vermont is notorious for crowning smart girls – which means interview is ALWAYS key. That always makes it tough for us to predict this state, but we’re going to do our best!
