Katherine Kelley is an All-American kind of girl.
Katherine was born in Kentucky, and went to school in Alabama, before moving with “Teach for America” to Nevada, where she won the Miss Nevada crown!
As a Math Teacher, Katherine’s platform was a direct result of what she saw in the classroom. Entitled, “Every Day Counts: A Comprehensive Plan for Improving School Attendance,” Katherine dedicated her time as Miss NV to encouraging children to attend school each and every day, knowing what a difference daily attendance would make in their academic careers.
In an article in the UNLV News Center, Katherine also offers some great advice for students or aspiring teachers:
“Remember that no one is perfect. You will make mistakes and you will struggle at some point on your journey. You will be discouraged. In those times, remember why it is that you are passionate about your field and learn from your mistakes. Learning to grow and adapt will carry you very far in life.”
Those are some great words of wisdom from Katherine – Not just for teachers/students, but for the rest of us as well! Your year as a state or local titleholder might not be “perfect” – But you can still have a significant impact on everyone who crosses your path. 🙂
Junkies know Katherine was able to do just that… And her year as Miss Nevada had a strong impact on her – as well as on the people she met along the way. Kudos Katherine! And here’s to many more years of awesome impact to come!
