Lizzi Jackson competed twice at Miss Washington… The first time, she didn’t even make the semi-finals. But the second time, SHE WON THE WHOLE DARN THING! What in the world changed between year one and year two??? In today’s podcast, Lizzi shares her whole story and what the difference was for her. The good news is – you can do it too – if you’ve got the guts to try!
#94: Candice Bennatt, Miss NM 2012 and Miss LA 2015
It’s pretty rare to hold state titles in both the Miss America and Miss USA systems… And after you win one title and you decide to try for a second, Candice Bennatt says, “It’s like putting your head in the lion’s den…” lol! But Candice is no dummy – she’s currently a law student in Louisiana – And in today’s podcast, she talks candidly about what each system taught her during her incredible pageant journey. Enjoy!
The Truth Behind Pageants…
Part of the appeal of Pageant Junkies is that I tell the truth.
Now, I try to be honest in a kind way… Rather than an “in your face” kind of way. Trust me, there’s no need for brutal honesty if it’s going to turn away your audience – But I do my best to present the truth in a way that most people will accept it.
Here’s the truth.
Pageants are not won on stage.
You might think the girl who’s been dancing since the age of 3 and has the most incredible leaps and turns is the winner because of all of her years of training.
You might think the contestant with the amazing body and long hair is the winner because she’s naturally thin and has a metabolism that lets her eat cheeseburgers every other night (whereas you don’t).
You might think the girl with the brand-spanking new evening gown that’s rumored to cost her over $4000 is the winner because “her family has money.”
I’m here to tell you – NONE of it is true.
Instead – Pageants are won off-stage.
Here’s what I mean.
Every time I talk to someone who’s judged a pageant, they all tell me the same thing…
As a contestant, when you’ve impressed a judge in the interview room, THEY LOOK FOR YOU ON STAGE! It’s True! They’re pulling for you! They want you to do well in the other areas of competition! They already believe you have what it takes to win after your interview – They’re just trying to make sure you’re compelling in each of the other areas of competition as well!
So… The question is… What are you doing to improve yourself in your interview?
At Pageant Junkies University, we’ve developed a way for you to work on your interview – But more than that, we’ve developed a way for you to stand out in the interview room.
It’s called our “Build Your Pageant Brand” digital course. There are 6 different modules – and we talk about your interview – but more than that, we talk about how you can have the best interview of your life!
We launched this do-it-yourself course earlier this week and you can find out more by checking out this link right here… We list everything you receive with the course, along with our 30 day money-back guarantee.
Just know, enrollment for this course closes on Sunday at midnight (October 25th). We do plan to open up enrollment again for Pageant Junkies University in the future – but I’m afraid I just don’t know when… Therefore, if you need this information before the end of the year, now is the time to check it out.
And that’s the truth about pageants!

#93: Shanna Pinet & Mary Morin Carlin, Fighting Fabulously
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, today’s podcast features a couple of pageant ladies who are “Fighting Fabulously”. Meet Shanna Pinet and Miss New Hampshire 2002, Mary Morin Carlin – two incredible women, working to survive breast cancer, who continue to see the positive in the midst of their difficult circumstances. We love the fact that they started a movement to help other breast cancer patients, do the exact same thing!
#92: Jamie Lynn Macchia, Miss New York 2015
Obviously, some pretty exceptional women in the Miss America system have come from the state of New York! In today’s podcast, Jamie Lynn Macchia, Miss New York 2015 says, “I had the great fortune of competing with all of them.” Jamie Lynn’s story is really fascinating – having competed with Mallory, Nina and Kira before winning the title herself… But it’s her advice to contestants that I find the most compelling part of this entire interview! Listen in and see for yourself on today’s Pageant Junkies Podcast. 🙂
